Osteria Tosca, in front of Puccini’s statue, has a garden and is said to serve some of Lucca’s best food and great wines. The square also has several shops, restaurants, vendors, pubs, and snack bars, so there are plenty of places for lunch or dinner with family. Piazza Cittadella is a lively spot in Lucca’s historic center, where locals chat and visitors take in the sights. It sits where Via di Poggio meets San Paolino. In the middle stands a bronze statue of Giacomo Puccini, seated with poise, and it draws the eyes of people passing by. This is where Puccini was born in 1858 and spent his childhood and youth. His birthplace is now the Puccini Museum Casa Natale, where you can see his belongings, including documents, notes, furniture, and other objects. The piano he used to compose some of his well-known pieces is there too. The museum ticket office is also in the square, along the route where the maestro’s carriages once passed.
