Breakfast was a highlight, freshly made each morning with small changes from day to day. The family who run the place were very friendly and helpful. Our room on the third floor of the old building was comfortable and charming, though a bit worn, and suited us well for a short visit. The shared entrance and lift are used by the other residents too. Finding it took some effort, but once we knew our way around, the location was great. One issue came up when walking down the medieval staircase: the lights switched off halfway, and it was dark. We used our phones to see. Lucca is charming, and we'd happily stay here again if we returned.

We chose this stay for a special occasion and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was just right, the staff were fantastic, and the location couldn't be beaten. The rooms each have their own character. Lucca is a beautiful historic city, and I'd highly recommend staying here. Breakfast was delicious too!

My room was quiet and looked out toward Torre dell Orologio, in a nice B&B taking up a whole floor of a historic building that also has family apartments. I gave it two stars because the hot water kept failing. An old gas heater made odd noises and repeatedly switched on and off, so the water went from barely warm to ice cold. When staff came to look, warm water happened to be running and they said, "You see, it works!" But as soon as they left, it was cold again. At checkout I mentioned it and was told they would need to call a technician. Later, after leaving my luggage there, I asked to use the bathroom when I returned to collect it. They said I couldn't, because the rooms had been cleaned for guests who hadn't checked in yet, and there wasn't another bathroom available.

The rooftop terrace apparently has lovely views over Lucca, but when we asked twice as guests if we could have a drink there, we were told no because of private parties. I can't recommend this place and won't return. In summer, check carefully whether your room has air conditioning: some don't, and the little ceiling fan in certain rooms isn't enough once it's over 30C. They were also reluctant to switch on the air conditioning in the reception and breakfast area. Our room listing mentioned a mini bar, but there wasn't one. The dated bathroom had a tiny, awkward shower, and all the TV channels were in Italian. There was no hotel shuttle bus either. Instead, we were advised to pay €100 for a 30 minute taxi.

The staff were kind and helpful every day of our stay. Palazzo Rocchi added a fairytale feeling to our already amazing trip to beautiful Lucca, with an elegant setting that made it feel like stepping into another world.
