We made this our usual morning stop for coffee and people-watching during our three weeks in Lucca. It was always open, even on Sundays and Mondays when lots of nearby cafes close, and the staff were consistently warm with us. The coffee and focaccias were good. Prices might be a little higher than at some other places, but it's right on one of the larger piazzas, so there's always something to watch.
After a full day walking around, this is a relaxing spot to sit with coffee or tea and something sweet. Friendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere made it a nice place to unwind.
I came in hoping to try local wine and found several choices, with enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff who gave us a warm welcome and were keen to talk up the local bottles. Even in a Lucca tourist hotspot, the bar had a nice mix of locals and visitors. I especially liked the fruity, refreshing Vermentino/Chardonnay/Grechetto blend on a very warm day. It's a busy cafe/bar in the town centre, and I had a hard time finding anything to fault. Highly recommend.
The service was nice, and the location works well, with outdoor tables in sun or shade. We tried a couple of glasses of Malie, the Vermentino, Chardonnay and Grechetto white blend. It had an interesting aroma, but I found myself wanting to hold my breath while swallowing. To me it tasted like a basic, cheap Chardonnay from the States.
The ginseng drink and sweet I ordered both tasted really bad. I mentioned it, but they still charged me and didn't even apologize. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
