Hotel Garnì Zeni

A friendly, family run hotel, conveniently near two gondolas for skiing. Breakfast was nice, with hard boiled eggs, meats, cheese, yogurt, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and tea. Great place to stay.

The location is good and the people are nice, but that’s about all I can say in its favor. This was a bad experience, and I don’t think the hotel deserves its 3 stars. The rooms are too small, the WC is very bad, and it was very cold. The central heating didn’t work properly, a real problem with below freezing temperatures outside. There are much better options in Madonna for the same price.

It’s a cosy, charming place with a real alpine feel, and I’d say it’s good value. You can tell the hotel has been around a while from the interior, but it still has what you need: comfortable beds, a quiet setting, a nice view from the room balcony, and ski storage by reception. Breakfast was a good boost before the slopes, with sweet and savoury choices. They put a fresh pastry on your table each morning, which really made my day.

We had booked three nights, but illness meant we had to leave after just one. When we told the owners, their first response was that we had to pay for the whole stay, rather than asking how they could help. On the map the lifts look close, but a small river lies between the hotel and the Pradalago cable-car. It’s a 400/500 meter walk, mostly uphill, along slippery roads in ski boots while carrying skis. That took us a tiring 10 minutes, not the advertised 2. Very disappointing.
