The area is beautiful, a short drive from Pittiglione, and feels like a real gem. But we wouldn’t recommend staying here. We’ve travelled Tuscany for the past 12y, so we should know. Borgo Magliano is a sophisticated camping site with apartments, and the only reason it has 4 stars on Booking is its restaurant and swimming pools. Our apartment was so dirty that we had to ask for another one. There was dust all over the kitchen chairs, and under the bed was no better. The appliances in the cupboards and drawers had leftovers on them, so we couldn’t stay there. They couldn’t move us until the next day, which meant we couldn’t eat breakfast before mid-day. The pools were ok, but sunbeds were “taken” early in the morning, even though no one stayed there before mid-day. The pool rules didn’t allow this, but no one seemed to care. The pool guard certainly didn’t, he was busy on the phone. The admin of Borgo Maglione compensated 20% off our dining bill, but we ate elsewhere, so that was nowhere near what we were entitled to. It’s nowhere near worth what you pay.

The resort is nicely tucked away from the main road, but still close to a lovely medieval town. We really enjoyed our stay. Our two-bedroom apartment had a kitchen, and air conditioning in every room that worked well on hot days. The beds were comfortable, and the apartment was very clean. We could have used a few more kitchen utensils and pieces of equipment. There are three pools with enough room to splash about, and the restaurant is decent. Its terrace has an amazing view over the surrounding area. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the Tuscan countryside, with the beach close enough for a day trip.

The restaurant was a plus. We bought dinner vouchers for 10 days, and the food changed every day. The dishes were tasty, varied, and quite large portions. The biggest highlight of the stay was the restaurant’s Boss, Mr. Rodolfo. He has a fantastic sense of humour and made every evening a lot of fun. We’ve just come back from a 10-day stay. The location is very good, with a great view of Magliano. But the rooms were dirty, and the furniture quality was poor. The living room sofa was so dirty we had to cover it with towels. There was dust and balls of rolled up covering, as you can see in the pictures. I asked reception to clean it, but nobody came during our 10 days. This should be a 2-star resort, no more.

The dinner and breakfast buffets were tasteless, so we ended up making our own food in the apartment. We were also told we’d get discounts on some services, then had to pay extra for them anyway. And the olive oil tasting trip they sell is a joke. The staff doesn’t speak English, you just see a bunch of machines, then sit down to taste the oils. They gave us moldy bread. There was an ant invasion in the apartment and on the porch. The beds were hard as rock, the pillows gave no support, and the AC made a rumbling noise from time to time. The bathroom light took ages to turn on, the fridge wasn’t really cold (though better than keeping food outside), there was no dustpan in the apartment, and the bins were almost always full. I expected much more from a supposedly 4-star resort.

The view and setting were lovely, but that was about all we enjoyed. Our apartment felt dated and gloomy, probably because of the dark furniture. We had booked two bedrooms for three adults and a child, giving the child’s age, but got one bedroom and a sofa bed instead. It was uncomfortable and far too small for an adult and a teenager, especially the older kids. The shower had black mold and needed a proper clean. Dinner was a poor joke: a buffet with grilled peppers, salad, ham, roast beef and beans, plus pasta with meat made by the chef. The meat tasted sour and the pasta was very chewy. Breakfast wasn’t much better. The coffee was awful, the soy milk had gone bad, and the bread selection was poor, even though good bread is easy to find in local supermarkets. We only had some kiwi and sausage. The pillows were completely flat. When we asked reception for more, we were told they would come in the morning. We explained we needed them that night, and after some arguing they did bring them. The Wi-Fi was the worst part. It didn’t work in our apartment at all. We reported the internet problem twice and were promised it would improve, but nothing changed.
