La Casa di Zia Agata

We stayed two nights with our family of four. The room was clean, had all four beds, and even though it’s close to the beach, there wasn’t a grain of sand on the floor. The bathroom was clean too, with no bad smells. The neighborhood felt safe and lively, and it was nice to be among the locals. There’s a small kitchen where they serve a simple breakfast. I believe the older gentleman who runs it is the owner, and he was friendly with my son. The woman at the front desk was polite and answered all my questions. I’d only suggest adding a bedroom trash bin and offering room service on request. You can walk to the beach and nearby hotels, and the bus and ferry stops are close. I was in touch with the front desk by email and WhatsApp before arriving. For a taxi, plan ahead and check that one will be available when you need it. Many don’t just stop when you wave, especially if you need to catch a ferry or train.

It was a very quiet place, and the lady was fine with us leaving our bags after checkout. We’d been a little wary after reading reviews about her, but she seemed grumpy at first and was actually quite nice. She never spoke rudely to us, and her husband was lovely too, as others have said. The property is right across from the beach, near restaurants and supermarkets. The room could use a kettle. The location is handy, though getting to the boat dock is a good walk.

The big letdown was the owner. The woman had a really bad attitude at both check-in and checkout, and that poor service spoiled the whole stay for us. Because of her, we have to rate it much lower than the place itself might deserve. The location is great, and it costs less than other places on the Amalfi Coast. The cleaning was okay, and both the bed and bathroom were spacious.

Maiori was our favorite place on the Amalfi Coast. It wasn’t as crowded as Positano or Capri, and La Casa di Aurora made a lovely base for the week. The hotel has a simple charm, and the staff were thoughtful. Five stars!
