Saturnia Tuscany Hotel

Hotels like this are rare in Italy. The service and hospitality beat what even many five-star hotels can offer. At a four-star hotel, have you ever seen reception staff smiling, or a bathroom so clean there isn’t hair on the floor? I haven’t. Lunch and dinner at the restaurant were perfect, and breakfast was excellent too. The waiter was friendly, smiling, and welcoming. Congratulations to the hotel management for achieving what many others can’t.

The pool was pristine, with a magnificent view of the hills, and there were plenty of places to sit or sunbathe. You could buy drinks and snacks right by the pool. In the evening, dinner on the terrace came with a sunset over the hills. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a nice terrace and a view, and breakfast was generous. The place felt luxurious without being uncomfortable, and there were lots of spa options. The staff were so friendly and attentive, they made us feel welcome. We were only passing through to see the hot springs, and I wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.

The room looked over the pool and valley, and the hotel and view were impressive. Staff were fantastic from the first contact, when they helped with questions about parking for our camper. We took the cheaper room without a balcony because we were told none were left, and we were happy with what was available at the last minute. While watching a thunderstorm move through the valley, we booked dinner and talked about staying a few more nights. Dinner was neither good nor bad, really, and it was the reason we decided not to extend. I’d be happy to give the manager more detail privately. Later, after dinner, the room was hot and humid, 26 degrees. Reception said the air conditioning wasn’t on because it wasn’t the season yet. With the window open, I spent the night either sweating or being eaten alive. Neither worked for me, so I’m glad we moved on. Breakfast was very basic, with no working toaster or pancake machine, just cold meat and a slice of bread. I know it’s a European thing, but I’ll never agree with non-service dogs being allowed at restaurant tables.

The food was lovely, especially the pici carbonara and pomodoro pastas, and the rooms were spotless with a nice mix of Tuscan style and modern comforts. The whole resort feels welcoming thanks to Iunio's hands-on care. He made sure we felt at home and was attentive to every need. When an unexpected problem came up, Iunio drove me to a nearby town more than once, helped translate, and guided me through sorting it out. The property itself is beautiful, with Tuscan countryside views all around. That kind of personal help from an owner is rare. Grazie mille Iunio, Carlo and the wonderful staff! 10/10
