Villa Le Due Dame

The lake view and location were great, but I can't recommend this place. The price didn't feel justified. The refrigerator had a really unpleasant smell, and rotten food had been left inside. I also expected a TV in a supposedly 3-star hotel, though that was a minor issue compared with the nonexistent service. Towels were meant to be changed every 4 days, but ours weren't changed at all. During our 7-day stay, neither the room nor bathroom was cleaned once. We saw no contact person on site during the stay, apart from when we arrived.

The bed was the worst part for me. The rooms are on mezzanine levels, and you can hear other guests talking, partly because the spaces have been altered to make more room. Skylights can also wake you: if an earlier guest set an alarm, you first hear the sunshade move, then daylight comes in. Still, our one-night visit was pleasant, and the location is very convenient, with the courtyard giving a lovely setting beside the historic town center. Staff were friendly and helpful when we met them. On arrival the room was tidy and reasonably clean, apart from a few cobwebs. There’s room for improvement.

We liked the old town location, the shady, peaceful courtyard with seating, and the friendly staff. Our room had a nice view, air conditioning, and a refrigerator, while the kitchen seemed well equipped for breakfast, though we didn't cook. The bed slats had a broken piece missing at the edge, fortunately not too troublesome. In the evenings, bright spotlights lit up the building and the blinds couldn't block them. Cleaning came only after a week, which was inconvenient in our small room with a dog. They vacuumed and changed the sheets and towels, but didn't clean the bathroom. Staff were rarely around and answered messages only after we followed up. The Booking reviews displayed on-site, with scores over 9, date from 2016, when apparently different operators ran the property. The new operators could work a bit harder to bring the ratings back up. :)

The breakfast was generous, the mattress comfortable, and there was always hot water. This welcoming B&B sits in a very handy village for exploring the western shore of Lake Garda. My only reason for giving 4 stars is that Wi-Fi worked only in the courtyard and on the ground floor. I'd recommend it and will return to carry on touring this wonderful place.
