B&B da Selly

A great spot, close to the town center.

The room was very spacious and had a bathroom, and the location is right in the center. But the kitchen was very dirty, with dust clumped up everywhere. The bathroom was rough too, and using the shower took some nerve. Such a shame given how central it is.

The owner was very helpful and kind, and even picked us up from the station when we arrived. We had a good stay, and at 80 euros a night the price may be a fair middle ground given Mantua’s generally high rates and what B&B Da Selly offers. The apartment is in an old building near the historic center, handy for seeing the city. The rooms and furnishings have an antique feel, and in our room many pieces seemed to be used for storing tools and other materials. There wasn’t a trash can, and the old mirror was unusable, though simply adding another one would solve that. As the B&B website says, most rooms don’t have their own bathroom, which is inconvenient. At night, opening and closing the doors to use the bathroom makes a lot of noise and can wake nearly everyone, since the doors almost stick. Breakfast supplies include coffee, milk, tea, herbal teas, and various juices, along with packaged snacks and biscuits. You prepare it yourself, and nothing is fresh.

The owner is welcoming and always ready to help, and breakfast is plentiful, though I would have liked homemade pastries. The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished. I booked two nights, and the B&B is about a five-minute walk from Mantua’s historic center. I recommend it!
