Hotel Excel Roma Ciampino

The food hasn't been good. Since we're here as a group, we're kept in a side room and aren't allowed the breakfast buffet or lattes and cappuccinos that other hotel guests can get. We've also been given attitude when asking for things like utensils for the cold eggs. My room is on the ground floor, so at least the wifi works here. Apparently it doesn't reach the second or third floors. The rooms are small but usable, and the walls are thin enough that showers and conversations from nearby rooms carry through. The shower curtain only wraps around part of the shower, so using it leaves half the bathroom soaked. The receptionist said nothing could be done. I'd look for a better place to stay.

My travel partner was repeatedly stopped for her passport and room number whenever she entered without me. She's Nigerian, and they never did that to me. The food was awful, and the beds were so uncomfortable I woke up in pain every morning. Construction noise woke me daily, the gym was out of order, and the staff were excessively rude. Don't stay here.

The only good part was the receptionist with glasses. The hotel is nowhere near a bus stop, and a taxi to the closest train station costs €30. Even the taxi called by the receptionist starts at €16. The soundproofing is poor, so you may wake up to the next room's toilet flushing or shower. In the breakfast room, the middle-aged blonde woman yells at people in Italian and makes them bring their empty plates to her desk. Jolly Tour should stop using outdated hotels like this.

The laundry situation was a mess. I put my dirty clothes in the laundry bag when I arrived, but they weren't washed. I hadn't added my name and room number, so I thought that was my mistake. The next day, still nothing, and I blamed myself again for not telling reception. On the third day my clothes were still unwashed. Reception then told me the hotel doesn't offer laundry service and the bags are just decoration. Breakfast was awful too: sweets, bread, ham and cheese, and eggs cost an extra €2.50. You can't serve yourself, and there's a queue for one waiter to take orders, serve coffee, and clear tables, all very slowly. The bathroom was horrible, the shower was yellow instead of white, and there was almost never hot water. This was my worst experience in a four-star hotel. Bad food, bad bathroom, no laundry, and poor reception service.
