Villa Romita

The staff were attentive, and the balcony view over the pool to the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius was amazing. The hotel and rooms are spacious, but our bedroom and bathroom felt extremely dated, with 1950s or 1960s furniture. We couldn't work the shower, and a bathroom cupboard handle was coming off. That really spoiled our holiday. The food was adequate, though we expected fine dining and it wasn't that. I can imagine the place was gorgeous in its heyday. Several people in our group complained, but the owner said he couldn't change the bedrooms. We paid 4-star prices and found the stay very disappointing. The bedrooms need renovating to a 4-star level if the hotel is to compete with nearby places.

The views from the bathing and dining areas across the scenic bay to Mount Vesuvius were truly stunning, even though the pool is on the small side. We had amazing food, with several delicious gluten-free choices, and the staff were very aware of coeliac needs. The hotel has an authentic Italian feel, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were excellent and helpful beyond what was required.

The courtesy bus is free, which was useful since the hotel sits up in the hills, and the views across the bay were beautiful. It's a family-run place with a friendly, professional atmosphere, more Italian in feel than the bigger hotels. We had a fabulous stay, and our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. The staff were always busy checking whether we needed anything, but stayed friendly throughout. Tony the barman deserves a special mention, always smiling and remembering your name. The family clearly wants guests to have a lovely holiday. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and one evening the restaurant brought out a cake and sang to us. Our friend had the same lovely treatment for her birthday, and other guests celebrating were treated that way too. We'd recommend the hotel.

At Grand Hotel Hermitage & Villa Romita, the food was excellent, and Antonino, our waiter, made each meal feel special with his attentive care. We also met Renato's aunt, Mrs. Maria, who was warm and welcoming, and Rafael was spectacular, always ready to help. Guillermo, the owner, greeted us generously and made us feel at home straight away. Renato was fabulous, helpful and attentive with a smile, and Paolo took good care of us. We enjoyed chatting with him. Our driver, Domenico, made every trip easy and smooth, always professional and friendly. The hotel is peaceful, charming, and full of character. It's a little outside town, but well worth visiting, and the transportation that picks you up and brings you right to the hotel made getting around easy. From our arrival, everyone treated us with such kindness that we felt part of a family. This was more than a place to stay, it was a warm, authentic experience that left us with unforgettable memories. We highly recommend it and can't wait to return. Carlos & Maira
