The room itself was nice, and the owner later offered us a bonus toward a future stay when we asked about making up some of the unused time. We appreciated the gesture, though we turned it down. We had arrived a day late because of a problem on our end, then left a day early. The rest of the stay was frustrating enough that I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Salento deserves quality tourism built on clear information, human kindness, and professionalism, alongside its traditions and passion. Those things matter more than resin floors and Instagrammable trinkets. I hope the property updates its description so other tourists can make an informed choice. From the invoice, I understand the owner is a young local who apparently has other properties in the area. I’m writing at length because I hope this spurs him to improve things. Long live Salento! We booked a junior suite on Booking.com for five nights, August 12-17, at about €100 per night. The site listed a terrace and free private parking, but neither was available to us. The managers suggested a parking area 500 meters away over WhatsApp, and later explained that the terrace was only for an apartment on the upper floors. The room had a bathroom and was certainly nice, but trash cans stood outside the entrance, as shown in the photo. It was linked to another junior suite by a wooden door, and was on the ground floor, something the listing didn't mention. We could hear both the people next door and the street, even though it was a quiet street. There was nowhere to get fresh air, and privacy and quiet were basically absent. We left a day early. Communication with the people running this “place” was completely lacking. I call it that because I really can't tell whether it's a hotel, B&B, guesthouse, or apartment. They sent self check-in instructions over WhatsApp. We arrived at 9:20 PM, and I called both numbers to confirm we were there and ask for help with the Wi-Fi. No one answered or called back. The password only came through at 1:51 AM. We never saw anyone from the property, and nobody asked for our identification, so we weren't even registered. The next morning I briefly met Gianluca, who I believe was a member of staff. I politely explained my complaints and said, in the interest of transparency, that I'd report the shortcomings to Booking. He just shrugged. On the evening of the 17th, I got the receipt for the stay, which included several conditions, among them: “The tenant must notify the owner of any defects in the property and furnishings within 2 hours of receiving the keys.” Guests need to be told about conditions like that when they arrive, not when they leave. Tourists should act respectfully, and the place being offered should be described clearly and accurately. That seems fair, and it's also required by law. And about the name, please describe the “junior suite” as a “private room on the ground floor” :-)
