Hotel Due Palme

We found this hotel while cycling through the area, and got lucky with its perfect location. The restaurant's food was delicious, and the years it spent in the Michelin Guide are still easy to understand. We ate fresh fish from the lake right beside the hotel, out on the terrace with a fantastic mountain and lake view. Our room was super clean, the bed really comfortable, and the service was great. We definitely recommend it.

The location deserves five-plus stars, but the food and rooms were very poor. There was no choice in the restaurant, just one dish each for the starter and main course. The manager was unhelpful, and our room was tiny and dark, with poor lighting and a brick wall for a view. The bathroom was extremely small.

Our room had a lovely big shower, and the staff were very friendly. The lakefront position was beautiful, and our tiny balcony had just enough room to sit and admire the view. Breakfast was reasonable, with a good range of sweet and savory things. The coffee from the machine wasn't great, despite the different types available. There was only one kind of tea, with no choice, and it wasn't individually packaged. The tea bags in the room were loose too, which didn't seem hygienic. The air conditioning wasn't switched on until 3 pm, even though we'd asked for it earlier; the manager did turn it on for us, but it would be nice to control when it comes on. Thanks anyway for a pleasant stay.

The hotel is quite central and has a private beach, and some staff members tried to make up for the generally low quality with good service. But that wasn't enough for the daily rates or all the problems we had. Apart from the nice view, the rooms didn't offer much. The walls and doors provided no soundproofing, so we heard toilet flushes, people talking, and showers. There was a 3 or 4 cm gap under the entrance door, wide enough to fit a hand through. Shower pressure was so poor it was nearly impossible to shower, and the AC couldn't be controlled or turned off. The two times we tried the elevator, it didn't work. After waiting five minutes, we carried our heavy luggage downstairs. Breakfast was very poor, and tables weren't cleared after other guests left. We had to move dirty dishes ourselves to sit together. There was no parking space, despite listings elsewhere saying it was available. We had to walk a while because there are virtually no spaces nearby. I think that's an issue with listings on sites like Booking.com, but it's worth mentioning. On busy days even the suggested spot at the Post Office could be hard to find, meaning more walking. This was probably one of the worst hotels I've stayed at.
