Domus Lace

It was good, and breakfast was okay.

The owner is kind and helpful, and the place is welcoming, private and extremely clean. It’s right in central Messina, with most of the main sights within walking distance. This was my second time staying here, and I’m planning to come back soon. Highly recommended, a well-earned five stars.

The welcome was prompt and very kind, full marks for the lady there. The location was convenient for getting around, and the spacious, well-designed bathroom deserves top marks too. I still had a pleasant stay, but I can only give 3 stars because of several issues. The bedrooms are both small, and neither has a window facing outdoors. Their only windows look onto a large shared corridor, which means little privacy. Some soundproofing might help. That corridor is also used for breakfast, but there are no chairs or small table, just a small sofa that isn’t comfortable or suitable for the generous breakfast served. There’s no kitchen sink for washing hands or rinsing anything. The shared fridge, which serves only the two rooms, is about a meter tall and too small for several bottles of water in summer, let alone other things. A full-sized fridge would be better, especially since guests may be from different households. There are three affectionate cats outside, resting on the stairs and landings up to the apartment, so guests with allergies should probably be told. The staircase is narrow and inaccessible to people with disabilities. If these things were addressed, this could be a five-star place for some important people.

The owner gave us a lovely welcome and was very kind and helpful. We stayed one night in a quiet area where parking was easy to find, and the center was an easy walk away. The rooms were beautiful, roomy and comfortable, and the bed was comfortable too. Breakfast had everything needed for a good start, plus a coffee machine, kettle, herbal teas, fresh fruit and water. Everything was perfect, we’ll definitely come back.
