The room had such a strong, unbearable smell that sleeping there was impossible. The elevator is also so old it seems to work only when it feels like it, and riding it feels like a life-or-death test. Everything in the hotel is outdated, and there was no English-speaking staff to help. If you don’t want to torture yourself, stay away.

Domenico was a warm, welcoming host and very helpful. He either took care of what we needed or gave us the advice to sort it out ourselves. Our room was spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of natural light if you wanted it. Breakfast was very good, in the typical Italian style. Many of the town’s historic attractions are close by, and there are plenty of good places to eat within walking distance at a range of prices. The central location also means nightlife and lots of young people nearby. I found the area interesting and lively. I had a really good time and was very pleased with what we got for the budget and facilities.

The manager is a lovely man, though he isn’t always at the desk, and you get your own front door key. It’s very central, with a supermarket close by and a bus stop nearby. The lift is good, but the steps drove me crazy. Street noise can be an issue at night. It was a safe refuge when a cruise ship was in town.
