Lago Rotondo Ski House

I stayed with a friend in the tiny apartment 118 from July 17, 2025, to July 24, 2025. We didn’t unpack or use any of the kitchen appliances, including the microwave and stovetop, so I can’t say whether they worked. Despite my friend’s son reporting the lack of cleaning and the poor condition, nothing was done during our week there. We left it as it had been given to us. The place itself is beautiful, and the people we met outside the hotel were kind, but I won’t stay here again or recommend it. It needs a major renovation. The first thing you notice is the musty smell and the lack of windows that open. The only opening window is a narrow French window in the living room, overlooking a bare, desolate lawn with no deckchair or shade. The living room has a microwave, a small TV, and a sofa with its drawers facing down. Loose wires and a power strip are on display, running to bedroom one and connecting the microwave, lights, and outlets. The lighting is dim. Bedroom one is only as wide as the bed, which is pushed against two walls. You can’t walk behind it. The wardrobe blocks the windows, and cords for the outlets and lights run along the corridor beside the bed. There’s a TV on the wall at the foot of the bed. Bedroom two has no window and is just long enough for its bunk bed. It’s dim, with nowhere to put clothes except a chair. The two wall cabinets are full of pillows. The bed hadn’t been made, so I put on my own sheets and found mold under the mattress. The kitchenette furniture is dirty and worn, there’s grime in the corners, and the floors were dirty throughout. The fridge worked and didn’t seem especially dirty inside. The windowless bathroom has no ventilation, poor lighting, dangling wires, and a tiny, old-fashioned showerhead. The shower rails were black and dirty, the floor corners dirty and broken, and the sliding door had a hole and signs of earlier flooding. Showering flooded the floor. Even slippers used only inside the apartment picked up dirt and left black marks, so it was clear the floor hadn’t been cleaned. The power strip and loose wires beside the bed were especially concerning. I also wonder how the municipality can approve rooms with these conditions, which I have photos of.

We booked a 48 m² apartment for five and arrived to find one that measured 32 m² before counting the furniture. It seemed adapted for three people, with a bed right next to the dining table. That bed was upside down, drawers facing down, and impossible to fold. The small pantry door sagged on one hinge, another kitchen cabinet had no hook, the extractor hood didn’t work, and the windowless bathroom had no fan. The lighting was inadequate, and I’ll leave photos of the cramped layout and the dirty, broken fridge. The fridge didn’t work, and when we called, we were told to “put the meat on the snow.” I was shocked by how unprofessional that was. They said a technician would come at 8:00 AM the next day, but nobody came. We called again, and luckily someone arrived at 1:30 PM. They brought a replacement fridge but left the old one there, taking up even more of our limited kitchen space. The meter tripped whenever we used the microwave, even with everything else off, and sometimes it tripped with the induction stove too. We reported all of this, but nobody came back, so we got fed up with losing time and went skiing. To the owner: the fridge knob was so rotten it came off by itself. We didn’t touch the freezer door; it was already like that, and we told the technician. Instead of accusing guests, you should check and repair the apartments before people arrive. That’s another example of unprofessionalism, especially considering how much money you’re making.

At least the heating worked, so we weren’t cold at night. That’s why I’m giving two stars instead of one. We’d booked a weekend in a five-person apartment, but the small place was in rough shape: lights were burnt out, cabinet doors sagged, the shower leaked on both sides, and the meter tripped when we used the stove or microwave. The fridge was full of water and didn’t work. When we asked about it, we were told to put the food in the snow, which didn’t seem appropriate from a hotelier. They brought a replacement the day after we arrived and left it in the middle of the room, making the already cramped space even tighter for five people.
