I was here alone for a week, so the room was plenty big enough for me. It’s next to the albare gondola, which takes you to base camp, and there’s useful ski storage. The parking deck has great views. There’s a small grocery store at check-in, handy since I didn’t have a car, and another at marilleva 1400 with about the same things, a little bigger and open longer. My vacation was pleasant, and the location worked well for skiing and getting some work done. The place was hard to find, though, and I wouldn’t call it a 4 star resort. I came in early April, when all the amenities were closed. My room had no WiFi, though there’s a WiFi room in the salon at check-in. It was listed for five people, but that would’ve been cramped: two twins in the bedroom, a Murphy queen in the living room and a couch that doubled as another twin. There was one pillow per bed, five total, and linens and towels had to be rented. The big living room windows by the Murphy queen were nice to look out of. Checkout was unusual, between 8 and 10 am, and the cleaning staff had to approve the room first. The stove burners didn’t heat very well, but did the job, and the mini fridge worked great. Level 4 was best to stop things freezing. The walls are very thin, and I could hear nearby groups talking and walking around, even with only about two other groups near me. Bring extra toilet paper, since they only give you one roll.

Albare has become a must for my family’s yearly ski trip to Marileva 1400. I first found Albare apartment's 11 years ago, and I still enjoy booking and coming back. The buildings are old, but somehow seem beyond their age. The apartments are huge, around 70 or even 100m2, always clean, with lots of room, a fully equipped kitchen and great views over the valley and snowy mountains. For this location, it’s the best price throughout Europe. The ski lift to the top is literally a few steps away, and you can ski to Orso Bruno, Groste, Madonna and even Pinzolo with your skies on your legs.

You can find everything you need nearby, including a restaurant, supermarket, ski rental, gondolas, ski deposit, sports shop and parking. The parking bays are tiny and don’t really fit family cars. Even a Nissan Qashqai barely squeezed in. The rooms were cozy and warm, though they could be more modern and would be better with a dishwasher.

It was one of my best ski trips, with great slopes, good service and amazing views all around. The desk lady was particularly nice. The rooms weren’t in the best shape and weren’t very clean, though. There’s no WiFi in the rooms, and you have to walk 500 meters up hills in cold weather just to send an email.
