Hotel Agape

The staff really did try to help, and I’ll admit we were very demanding, but the manager was nowhere to be found. We had reserved two triple rooms, and at check-in one of them looked nothing like the photos and was far from acceptable. They offered a single room that seemed meant for workers, which we turned down. We asked to speak to the manager to sort it out but got no response. They then offered free breakfast and said we’d get a different room the next day. We asked for breakfast for both triple rooms, and that was agreed. But after we’d sat down and eaten the next morning, we were told one room’s breakfast wasn’t free. Then the following day they said we actually wouldn’t be moving rooms after all. Being treated that way and lied to was infuriating. I’d give the hotel zero stars if I could.

After a while, a friend brought me €50 in cash, and then I was finally allowed into the room. I had three nights left and only needed somewhere to feed and put my child to sleep, but the receptionist kept smiling and saying I couldn’t have a room until I paid the deposit or gave card details. I’d already paid online and said I could get cash in an hour. She didn’t seem to care. I hate hidden charges and want to know the costs upfront. They asked for city tax and extra for the child’s bed, even though I’d included that in my search. Then they required a €50 damage deposit, supposedly to be returned after checkout. I didn’t have cash at the time, so I chose card. They made me write down almost all my card details, including the 12-digit number and expiration date. I said that could let someone steal my money. The receptionist said that wasn’t true, though I think she knew what I meant. I can’t tell if they simply don’t understand card theft, which I doubt, or if they collect this information for future crimes.

The area is really nice, and public transport is very close. Everyone at the hotel was welcoming and kind, especially receptionist Alexis, who gave us some great advice. Breakfast was excellent too. It’s a beautiful hotel, and we had a great stay.

For our family of four, the city fee came to €80, at €10 per person per night. That’s outrageous, and they also wanted a €50 minibar deposit. The hotel itself is good, but with these charges I wouldn’t recommend it to families. To the managers of the Hotel Agape Milano.
