Hotel Degli Arcimboldi

The rooms and hotel are modern and new, the location is okay and not too far from the subway, and the price was affordable. Even so, this was below average for a 4 star hotel, and I won't stay again. There was a strong, cheap perfume smell everywhere, in reception and in the rooms, enough to give me a headache. The room doors barely blocked noise. We could hear people arriving late with luggage and someone opening a door down the hall with music on a Friday night, loudly. Breakfast was expensive and unimpressive. The rooms were small, with no room for a proper desk. It was the lowest season with very few guests, but we still got the handicap room, where you have to crouch to shower. My girlfriend and I are young and fit, by the way.

I spent 18 days in Room 425, Jan 1st-18th. About 500 EURO disappeared from my wallet and envelope in the room safe, and the envelope had unnatural folds that hadn't been there before. It was clear someone had tampered with it. Based on similar stories in other reviews, I suspect someone from housekeeping. The safe also malfunctioned and locked me out of my belongings. The front desk said they didn't have the master key and told me to come back after 10 AM tomorrow. A master key should be available at all times. If that had happened on the morning of my flight, I couldn't have retrieved my passport and would have been stranded in Italy. I didn't have time to wait for police before my flight, so I sent a formal complaint by email. The hotel has completely ignored me. Theft from a supposedly secure safe, together with no accountability, is a massive security failure. I demand a full investigation and a refund. DO NOT TRUST THE SAFES IN THIS HOTEL. Choose somewhere else where your safety and property are respected.

We got a room at 11am when we checked in, and the service was good. The concierge also stores bags for free. The room was clean, with a large, comfortable bed and a large bathroom. The sink drained very poorly, and the cooling didn't work even after we changed the thermostat. The room only got below 24C after we opened the window. After that, the temperature was good.

The buffet breakfast was great, with plenty of choices and a generous serving window from 7:00-11:00 AM. The room was nice and the bed comfortable, though the soundproofing wasn't great. We heard some funny conversations before bed. We usually only came to the hotel to eat breakfast and sleep, apart from one evening when we had dinner there. The serving staff weren't very receptive and couldn't explain the extra 4€ on the receipt. We also think the pizza and lasagna we ordered were frozen and not prepared on the spot.
