The owners make their own wonderful balsamic vinegar, and there are a couple of good restaurants just a short walk away. The breakfast patio is lovely and peaceful, with a well-established garden around it. It’s a charming little B&B in a quiet village a few miles outside Modena, so a car is useful. If you don’t have one, the bus stop is only a couple of blocks away, and they lend out bikes too. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully furnished. The older couple who own it bought and renovated the house decades ago, and they’re so friendly and hospitable that it feels like visiting family. I’d happily return and recommend it to anyone.

The vegan breakfast was a real highlight. It was their first attempt at making one, and they still served a huge range of delicious dishes. Afterward, we toured the attached Balsamic Vinegar works, learned about their traditional method, and tried a tasting that completely changed how I think about Balsamico. We only stayed one night, but the place was quiet and very convenient for Modena, which is a wonderful town. Our spacious room had high ceilings, exposed beams, and a very comfortable bed. The shutters kept it dark, so we slept really well. The house itself is beautiful, with an idyllic garden and a covered terrace. Lovely place to stay, and we’ll be back to see Modena properly.

Roberto and his wife made us feel completely welcome, and the villa is very easy to get around from, just outside Modena. The breakfasts were outstanding, with homemade cakes, canneloni, little omelettes, pate, and plenty more. Roberto also showed us the balsamic vinegar cellar and how he makes balsamico. It’s delicious, and I’d highly recommend buying some. Seeing the care and work behind the process was wonderful too. We travel a lot and had a fantastic stay at Villa Matildis at the start of December '21. The room, communal area with its large kitchen, and the surroundings are all beautiful. The restoration was done with so much thought, effort, and love. Check out the photo album in the common area to see what the villa used to look like and how much work went into it. Everything is well thought out and convenient, with all the amenities there. We’re looking forward to coming back.

Roberto and his family put so much care into hosting us for our one night. The facilities and room were pristine, with attention to detail, and the bed was super comfy. It was quiet and we slept great. The villa is well placed for exploring Modena. Roberto’s breakfast was more like brunch, with lots of different local dishes. We thought he must be a professional chef. He made it all vegan for our diet, and even put together a map of vegan restaurants in the region. His son Marcello explained the traditional Aceto Balsmico method. Ask them for the tour and tasting, it’s eye-opening and makes you rethink buying balsamic from a shop. We were amazed by their service and dedication. So much love for Villa Matildis and the beautiful family. We’ll be back!

My daughter and I stayed here for one night while going to a concert at RCF Arena. The beautiful villa and garden felt magical, and Roberto and his wife were such wonderful hosts that we felt invited into their home. Breakfast the next morning was a lovely surprise, with an extremely delicious range of options. Thank you. My husband and I will come back to stay and visit Modena.
