Casa Sipione Papa

The terrace looking over town was the highlight, and our room was lovely, with beautiful furniture and ceiling frescos. There was a coffee machine and a small fridge stocked with cold water, which was welcome after a day out. Our host was so kind and helpful, and had the room ready before check-in time. Breakfast was generous and delicious, a sweet, authentic meal served at a bar two minutes away. Such a gem, I'd happily book again!

The terrace had a lovely view over the whole town, and the location was good, around 10-15 minutes from the main street. Manuele was kind from the start. The old-fashioned decor and artistic ceilings made it feel like being in a museum, and the antique bed and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast at Bar de Duomo was delicious and typically Sicilian, and Fabio, who runs it, was very kind. A good choice for a peaceful stay :)

The terrace was a favorite, with a table and chairs beneath an orange tree and an incredible panoramic view. Our room was huge, beautiful, very clean, and opened onto it. The owner was a wonderful host and gave us lots of helpful information and recommendations. There was parking, and breakfast next to a famous church, just two minutes away on foot, was wow. Even the little turtle was adorable! Everything felt close by. From Modica, it was 30 minutes to Ragusa, 25 to a castle, 50 to Noto, and 25 to the beach, among other places. We could easily have stayed a week. Totally worth it, and we'd love to return and recommend it 🥹

The location made it easy to explore both Modica Alta and Modica Bassa, from the narrow upper lanes to Corso Umberto I below. Casa Sipione Papa is right between the two, and the Duomo di San Giorgio is next door, with a beautiful view from the terrace. We had the shared living room and terrace to ourselves during our stay. Emmanuel was already making a great impression before we arrived. Google Maps showed us past the property, so when I called, he came out, guided us to a parking spot, and helped carry our luggage. He and his family were very welcoming. Our room was spacious and covered in classic ceiling frescoes. We later found out the building is over 200 years old. The bathroom was large, modern, and fully equipped. At the caffè next door, Bar Cioccolateria, we swapped the usual brioche for arancini and had fresh lemonade. Honestly, both were the best we had in Sicily. Casa Sipione Papa is a special place, and I highly recommend it for a visit to Modica.
