B&B Il Grottino

The room was modern and clean, with a roomy bathroom, but getting around the area was impractical, and there was no parking even though it was advertised when we booked. The noise made for a terrible night: the metal entrance door is loud when people return late, church bells ring every 15 minutes all night, and the walls don’t block sound. The couple next door came in at 3 a.m. and kept making all sorts of noise until morning. We were glad to leave after one night. The listing also doesn’t explain the three steep flights of stairs or that breakfast means a hot drink and croissant at a nearby bar. That bar was closed in the morning, and there’s no kettle or way to make a hot drink in the room. This B&B should be described more honestly and managed better. What a nightmare, I wouldn’t recommend it.

We ended up leaving without breakfast because none was provided, and the owner didn’t respond when we messaged. The booking process was frustrating too: although we reserved a month ahead, we still had no confirmation the day before arrival and had to call several times to get information. Then, just hours before we were due, we were asked to make an immediate bank transfer, a payment option we hadn’t been told about when booking. The management felt unclear and unprofessional. A very negative experience, and I can’t recommend it.

Simona was kind and helpful, and my room was very clean, though tiny and basic. I stayed one night in this B&B, in Modugno’s historic center. The street is pedestrian-only, so you can’t reach it by car, and finding a space in the nearby alleys can be tricky. The building has no lift, and the rooms are on the second floor, above the owner’s first-floor home. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a glass door, and breakfast is at the little bar in the square. The church nearby was the main problem: its bells rang every 15 minutes all night and kept interrupting my sleep.

I was in Modugno for work and spent a day at this B&B. The room was spotless, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The owners were warm and helpful, too. I also had dinner at their family restaurant a short walk away, and the food was delicious. Thanks again, and congratulations. I recommend both places.
