Camping Porto

The ladies at reception were fantastic, friendly and helpful, 10/10. We spent a relaxed week at camping porto in a coco sweet tent, which had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed and enough kitchen equipment. The campsite owner or manager came across as rather unfriendly, though, and we didn’t feel very welcome as non-Italians. A simple greeting would have gone a long way. The bathrooms were okay, but toilet seats should be installed. Still, we had a pleasant stay.

The campsite is cozy and perfectly placed by Lake Garda. There’s no shop in the area, but you can order buns the day before, and a supermarket is not too far away. I can recommend staying here as long as you don’t run into problems that mean contacting the owner. We had plenty of issues with our Tulipano cabin right from the start: the door wouldn’t lock, other doors wouldn’t close, the toilet door fell down, the air conditioning didn’t work, and the power kept cutting out. We spent two days waiting while they made temporary repairs. Once the problems started, the owner suddenly stopped speaking English and spoke a lot of Italian instead. After a lot of hassle, we finally got a different cabin, and things got much better.

There’s a lively, very Italian family feel, with lots of Italian guests. It’s a traditional campsite and much like others of its kind. If you want peace and quiet from 10 pm, this probably isn’t the place for you, though some people may enjoy the atmosphere. The big downside is that staff don’t step in firmly enough when young people are partying. They need to address that, especially with so much competition nearby.

The campsite managers are very kind, and you can park your camper just 10 steps from the lake, right by the beach. If you can, come in September: the weather is great and there are fewer tourists. Walk a few steps left along the lakeside and you’ll find places like the one in the photo.
