B&B Stars and Stripes

We couldn't get a proper night's sleep because the room was unbearably hot. The advertised air conditioning was only in one room, and that room couldn't be used. A fan was all that was available in ours. The website also listed a TV, but there wasn't one. Although described as a B&B, this turned out to be a guesthouse. Our bathroom wasn't ensuite, either. It was called private, but you had to reach it through a shared area. There was no key to come and go freely; we had to call the owner and arrange each return to the property. The bathroom had several problems. The water was barely warm, the mirror light didn't work, the bidet felt unsafe, and the old showerhead only let out a trickle. When we complained, the owner made jokes and blamed unclear wording on Booking.com. He did raise the hot water temperature and repair the mirror light, but couldn't fix the shower. There was no shower tray, just a floor drain, and water ran out from under the shower and flooded the area. Breakfast had very little choice or quantity, and we had to ask the owner for everything. He was always around and did try to help with requests, even offering me his own cup for milk and cereal, but privacy didn't feel like a priority. The site promised daily housekeeping, yet during our two-night stay neither the room nor bathroom was cleaned or tidied. The villa garden was well kept, and the pool had initially caught my interest. But there were so many mosquitoes that even sunbathing was difficult. The pool didn't look clean, and the water didn't smell of chlorine, so we didn't feel encouraged to use it. At checkout, the owner denied the lower price we'd agreed on by phone and asked for the full Booking.com rate. I asked for a discount because the services didn't match the price, but he denied the shortcomings and differences from the advertised amenities, then called me a swindler. I paid what he asked, left without waiting for change, and went. I've traveled a lot and never come across this kind of disrepute and ambiguity. I strongly discourage staying here.
