My Monopoli- Casa dei Fiori "Orchidea" Centro Storico

We were three adults and our four-year-old daughter. Right from arrival, the air conditioning gave us trouble and we had to switch it on and off at the electrical cabinet. We didn’t think that was too serious, but then we found a cockroach in the bathroom. We hadn’t opened the window, despite the owner’s first suggestion that it had come in that way and that this was normal during high season. We told the owner we couldn’t stay, since basic hygiene matters to us. We asked for help finding another guesthouse and tried to cooperate, but the only option offered was to send a cleaner the next day. We didn’t think cleaning could fix a cockroach problem in a day. After apologizing several times, the owner agreed to refund the remaining amount, as arranged with booking.com. Since we’d stayed one night, we thought a refund for the other three was fair. We quickly found somewhere else in nearby Poligno for the same price and moved there. After that, though, the landlord barely communicated, and the booking agents didn’t get back to us either. We’ve been trying to sort out the refund since then. The owner can’t undo how badly the vacation went, or the fact that we had to find a place in another city and drive there late at night in a storm with a four-year-old, at considerable extra cost. We’re only asking for the money still owed, but there’s been no cooperation. The cockroach was bad enough, especially since the pictures gave us no reason to expect it. The owner’s attitude about the problem was even more upsetting. We don’t recommend this place at all.

The roof terrace was a highlight, with lovely views of the sea. The apartment is beautiful and very central, yet quiet.
