Agriturismo Vergelle

The rooms were decent, though a little dated, and the local restaurant was so-so. Getting to the complex meant a long drive over gravel, which was in really bad shape in places, and it's quite far from Montalcino. Air conditioning costs an extra 10eur/day, which feels like a rip-off given the price already.

The hospitality from Samuel and Maurizio made a real difference. They were kind and helpful, and their tips and recommendations helped make this an unforgettable holiday. Thank you both. We'd love to return to Vergelle whenever we're back in the area. This felt like a proper working farm, with the agricultural side and welcoming guests both taken seriously, while still offering the comfort and charm you want on holiday. We especially enjoyed learning about their pecorino. We visited the cheese dairy, heard how the cheese is made, and could see how proud and passionate they are about the process. Tasting it afterwards made the visit even better. The setting among the rolling hills of the Val d’Orcia is quiet and beautiful, and it's a great base for Montalcino, Pienza and Siena. Having a restaurant right beside the agriturismo was handy too. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, perfect for an easy dinner after a day out.

Angelo's agriturismo sits in a little medieval village among the green hills near Montalcino and San Giovanni d'Asso, between the Val d'Orcia and Val d'Asso. There's also an inn run by the charming Elisa, serving local Tuscan and Sardinian food, reflecting the owners' island roots, along with a great range of wines.

The hosts were so friendly, and the Tuscan hills made a wonderful setting. There's a little restaurant next door called La Locanda, where I held a birthday celebration for my whole family. Everything went smoothly.
