Didimos Resort

I’ve visited this resort several times with groups from New York & New Jersey. It’s right on the beach, with crystal clear water, and the rooms are perfect. The service is family friendly, and the food is delicious, typical Italian fare. The pool is relaxing, while the bar is always a big party. This resort is a gem of southern Italy. The hotel seems geared mainly toward weddings and other functions, with beach tourism a distant second. When an event is on, guests can’t use the pool or bar, and noisy celebrations happen right under the windows, sometimes with fireworks. Staff seem to think this is normal, even preferable, and are surprised if you don’t enjoy it. Their English is poor or nonexistent, which makes some of the obscure rules hard to understand. There are also serious safety issues. Ladders are left near the pool where children can climb them, and unfinished work around the pool bar is accessible to kids. The advertised beach lifeguard is rarely in sight. Reception staff react defensively to even friendly criticism or suggestions, and may come close to shouting. That may be an accepted way of communicating in southern Italy, but international guests should be taken into account too. It’s hard to recommend this hotel if you want a smooth holiday.
