Grand Hotel Tamerici & Principe

We had a very welcoming stay. Emilio Pancioli, the owner, greeted us and checked that we were happy with the rooms, service, and restaurant. The staff were kind and did more than expected to meet our needs. Our grandchildren enjoyed the pool, and the hotel is close to the town centre. The Grand Hotel America and Principe is also a good base for visiting Tuscany. We found the area peaceful and safe for walks, and the nearby Finiculare and thermal baths are a must visit.

The building is beautiful and has a lot of potential, and the location is very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. But the hotel is so old it smells dusty, and the air conditioning might as well not be there. I complained several times and nothing was done. Honestly, I think the four-star rating comes from the spa.

This guy seems to live on another planet. He refused to let us stay because we didn't have a passport, even though we showed our Romanian identity card and Booking reservation. He said Romania wasn't in the European Union.

The location was good and the food was fine, and the bathrooms were very clean. Downstairs was fine too, but our room felt dated, with broken light switches and curtains coming off their hooks. The balcony furniture was dirty. Staff were mostly pleasant, though the head barman could be moody and grumpy. It seemed to be set up for tour groups. At times there were four groups and just two coffee machines, so breakfast queues got huge, especially when some people took three drinks at a time. A couple or two seemed a bit overwhelmed by the bustle.
