Hotel Terme Vulcania

We spent a night here in the heart of Montegrotto Terme, in a beautiful park. The outdoor pools are decent, with plenty of space and several whirlpools, but cleanliness was a bit shabby. Inside, the pool was really dirty, with mold around the edges. The room was passable and spacious, but very old-fashioned, and the beds were very hard. Breakfast was awful. The packaged discount-store croissants, old smelly cold cuts and dry, stale pieces of so-called homemade cake left us worried we’d get sick. The hotel itself is very dated and poorly maintained. The mud and spa area is unused, and the hallway and lobby lights were off. We saw hardly any guests, apart from a few spa-day visitors using the pools during the day. We only saw an elderly woman, her son and a handyman managing the place.

I only used the pools, so I can’t comment on the rooms, though the photos don’t look inviting, and the bathrooms seem like a total loss. The changing room, if you can call it that, was so dirty I wouldn’t put my feet on the floor for fear of getting sick. The shower was barely warm, and there was no safe or locker. The whole place feels old, neglected, dirty and poorly maintained, almost like Pripyat after the nuclear disaster. There was an unbearable smell in the sauna area. The manager was very nice and friendly, and that’s the only reason I’m giving two stars.

Pets are allowed in the pool area, on a leash and out of the water, so you can relax with your furry friend nearby. The hotel is a little dated, but it has a peaceful, family-friendly feel and a lovely park. The owners are kind and friendly. I read a one-star review and thought it was really unfair. Anyone wanting a super 5-star hotel with all the latest amenities should have looked elsewhere.

The park is the only positive, though it could use more care, and even the parking lot roofs are unsafe. The old pools are in terrible shape and have no lifeguards, which seems dangerous given the number of people there for treatments, including those with mobility issues, children and older people. The restrooms and changing rooms are bad too. The whole facility needs a complete overhaul. Rates change between weekdays and holidays. Why charge differently when the place is still so dilapidated? I can’t speak for the hotel, and I wonder who would stay there. Not recommended.
