The pool was a real treat for cooling down during the hot afternoons. Francesca also gave us great ideas for nearby restaurants and wineries, and Enoteca Meucci and Cantina Baldetti were among our highlights. We had a great stay at Terra Rossa. There aren’t any services near the property, as others have mentioned, so it’s essential to bring your own food and drinks. We also had a lovely coffee and wine stop at Barbarullo near Centoia.

It was lovely to relax by the pool and enjoy the quiet, with the property clean and well cared for. There isn’t much nearby, and the closest town with amenities is a ten-minute drive. Montepulciano, a charming little town, is about twenty minutes away. A super cute place in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, and a good pick for a peaceful, traditional Tuscan break.

This put our Val d'Orcia holiday in serious jeopardy. After our reservation had been confirmed two months earlier, the host canceled it two days before check-in, in the middle of August, saying the room had been “accidentally” booked by someone else. We’d already made bookings and rentals, there were few facilities available, and the cancellation brought extra costs. The host tried to send us to a property somewhere completely different, two hours from Montepulciano, instead of offering something similar in the same area. We had to book elsewhere at a substantial extra cost. The host refused to reimburse that, didn’t acknowledge any damages, and only offered to refund the amount we hadn’t used. Needless to say.
