Hotel Antagos

We really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were clean, breakfast was good, and the beach is only about a five-minute walk away. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby too. Huge thanks to the hotel staff for making us feel welcome and doing such a great job. Definitely recommend it! :)

We paid €90 for two people for one night with breakfast in late August 2021. Check-in was available until midnight, there was no automated check-in, breakfast ran from 7:30 to 10:00, and check-out was by 10:00. We had a twin room. For what we got, that felt much too expensive, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful, and spoke enough English that Italian wasn’t necessary. They suggested a place for dinner, Conchiglia azzurra, a simple beach restaurant mostly visited by locals. The food there was excellent, though bring a dictionary. The hotel’s old telephone system at reception was a neat sight, but the rest of the building felt old too. Parking was a hassle in the heavy evening rain. The hotel spaces were full, so we used a public spot about two minutes away. There are very few dedicated spaces, so reserving one seems wise. The beach is around 100 meters away. Our room had a bed, table, small TV, wardrobe and central air conditioning. It was fairly large, though the sparse furnishings made it feel even more spacious. The room itself was mostly clean, and the bed was okay by Italian tourist standards, with two slightly squeaky mattresses. The bathroom was another story. It smelled strongly of mold and old pipes or drains. Most surfaces were clean, and the toilet and sink were fine, but the bathroom was poorly maintained and some tiles had mold. There was no window, and the ventilation did nothing to clear the smell. The shower was very cramped, with discolored, moldy silicone, terrible water pressure, and a cracked fitting that let the showerhead come loose while we were using it. We slept alright despite the squeaking. The free Wi-Fi was slow and unreliable, disconnecting every 20-30 minutes, and wasn’t good enough for sending photos or watching YouTube. The air conditioning was old but worked okay. The elevator buttons didn’t light up and there was no safety stop on the doors. Breakfast was just so-so. We were seated and had to choose from Italian basics brought to the table instead of serving ourselves from the buffet. The waiter didn’t understand that we wanted espressos, first offering caffè americano and then cappuccino. The coffee didn’t taste freshly ground, and the food was cheap but okay. In the hotel dining area, the food was also cheap, and the waiters didn’t seem to know what an espresso was. The beds were hard but manageable, and the room furnishings were sparse but usable, with a safe. The bathroom, cleanliness, and Wi-Fi all fell short, and the price was far too high for this level of quality.

The staff were kind and always ready to help. Our room was cleaned each day, and the Wi-Fi worked without any trouble. It’s about a five-minute walk to the seaside. There’s also a bike rental, and the coffee at the bar by reception is delicious.

We were there for ten days, and the people working at the hotel made the stay. Everyone was helpful, kind and smiling, which must be hard when you’re dealing with people all day. Chapeau bas. One staff member pointed us to Conchiglia Azzurra, the best restaurant we tried. When rain made cycling back difficult, another gave us a discount on the bikes. The owner and another staff member also helped with our car, getting us to a mechanic within a few hours so it could be fixed. The hotel was very clean, and our room was good. The maid cleaned it daily and left fresh towels each time. Parking is available out front, though it can fill up. Bike rental was very cheap. The beach is close, and the neighborhood is quiet, with a great restaurant that was cheaper and tastier than the snobby places downtown. Pescara is a little farther away. All in all, we had only good things to say about the hotel.
