Tenuta del Vecchio Mulino

The food at La Vecchia Tenuta del Mulino was a highlight for us. Each dish had plenty of flavor, good ingredients, and a mix of traditional cooking with its own twist. The grounds feel like a little escape into nature, with lots of greenery, spacious areas, and ponies and goats adding to the atmosphere. Everything seemed well cared for, and it was peaceful there. We felt welcome right from the start. Everyone we met, at reception and in the restaurant, was warm, cheerful, and ready to help. That personal touch made a real difference to our stay. It felt like more than just a place to stay, and we came away with lovely memories. We’ll definitely return.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and air-conditioned, and the English lawn outside was lovely and well kept. We also appreciated that the estate welcomes pets. Breakfast was generous and good, though a few savory choices would round it out nicely. At dinner, the food was plentiful, tasty, and beautifully presented. The pear dessert was especially good. The restaurant has a cozy feel, and its big window looking into the well-kept stables is a distinctive touch. Caterina, the manager, was so friendly and helpful when we arrived, and the whole visit felt welcoming. We enjoyed both staying and eating at Tenuta Vecchio Mulino, and would happily come back.

The restaurant has a fun, unusual animal theme, and the food was excellent. Breakfast was very complete too. During the week, though, the construction workers staying at the hotel made it a bit noisy. Even so, it left us with fond memories. The owners gave us a very warm welcome, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was especially convenient that the owner spoke French so well.

I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I feel I should explain what happened. Service was very slow, and the dishes were just so-so. About 30 minutes after the first course, my mother vomited everything she'd eaten, paccheri with mushrooms, in the restaurant bathroom. Once we got home, she kept vomiting and felt drowsy and dizzy. We ended up calling an ambulance and going to the hospital. The hospital report said mushroom poisoning, and she spent the whole night under observation. Maybe it was bad luck, but this really shouldn't happen. I strongly recommend going somewhere else.
