Villaggio Camping Torre Salinas

We were heading back to the ferry with our 1.5-year-old toddler and our dog, and urgently needed fresh water. At reception, we asked whether we could use the camper service for a short time, including a fresh water refill and toilet disposal. We were willing to pay the full price of a night. The receptionist was dismissive and rude. She said she didn’t care that we had a small child and told us to leave. Even when we again offered to pay the full overnight fee just to use the service, she sent us away without concern. We’ve stayed at campsites around the world during our travels and have never encountered such hostile, unempathetic treatment. It was ironic that if we’d simply checked in and left straight away, nobody would have noticed, but being honest got us treated with total disrespect. This is a shame for the camping community. We strongly advise other travelers, especially families with young children, to avoid it.

A very easy place for a lazy holiday. The beach is excellent and only a few minutes away on foot, and there’s a popular restaurant, a cafe with ice cream and decent takeaway pizza, plus a shop selling fruit and deli items. Reception staff were helpful, and the small local town is about a 10-minute drive, so the location works well for trips out too. The pitches are shaded and clearly marked, and both the site and bathrooms are cleaned regularly. There’s hot water, and it’s well lit at night. Limited traffic and, mostly, the neighboring farm’s hens can wake you, but I quickly went back to sleep. If the light bothers you, an eye mask helps, and it’s better than stumbling around in the dark. I’ve camped in Italy for 12 years, and this is a very good campsite.

I’m only rating the cancellation service, which was very poor. My booking confirmation for a pitch, received in Dec. 24, said the deposit would be returned if I cancelled far enough ahead. I cancelled at least 4 months before arrival and got a cancellation confirmation from their system, but nothing else happened. I emailed three times in English and Italian without a reply, then called twice. Both times, the woman on the phone said she’d speak to her boss the next day and arrange the payment. To date, I still haven’t received it. I’m left with the impression they don’t intend to refund the amount, and the whole thing feels very dubious. I’m glad I didn’t travel there and spend more money.

We pitched a tent here for one night. It cost 30 Euros, and the campground was clean and well organized. The lights were bright enough to shine into the tent. There’s a bar and a small market, and we had great pizza and other dishes at good prices.
