Luna Rossa

The room we got was terrible, as if nobody had checked, cleaned, or maintained it for ten years. There was mold all over the shower, and one side panel of the broken shower door was missing. It was dusty and felt dirty. The photos on Booking.com and elsewhere show one or two rooms they've renovated. There's no fridge either. Avoid this place.

The location is handy for the central station, about a four minute walk away, and the staff weren't unpleasant. We had no issues with them. But the streets around the main square are dirty and dingy, and didn't feel very safe. On a walk down the main road, we heard a woman scream and saw a homeless man's body being thrown onto a pile of black bags as people walked by. The area isn't great. The room is spacious, but there are ants on the floors, no toilet seats, and a constant sewer smell from the drains. The sinks have no plugs, which may contribute to the odor, though you get used to it. There's no fridge, the TV is tiny and poor, and outside noise is pretty bad. They sometimes ask you to leave your room key when you go out in the morning, which felt sketchy, so we kept our belongings locked in our luggage in the room. It's a cheap stay, and you get what you pay for.

By US standards, I'd rate this place a 1. The sheets looked clean and the room was very basic, but sound carried everywhere: thin walls, noise in the hall, from other rooms, and from the city outside. You could hear crying babies, kids fighting, and couples arguing. The bathroom was so cramped that I had to open the tiny shower door to sit on the toilet, and there was mold in the shower. I wore my beach shoes in there. I prepaid through a nonrefundable booking, but I'm leaving early. Never again.

The room is large and clean, and the bathroom looks nice, but I'm already somewhat disappointed after arriving this afternoon. There's no fridge, and our requests for an electric kettle and a knife went nowhere. We got a TV remote but no air conditioning remote. We like to have tea or coffee after dinner, and we can't do that here.
