Mariapia was lovely. She brought me a cappuccino and Cornetto each morning, and the accommodation was kept very clean. The place is near Garibaldi Piazza, and the bathroom is shared by only two guests.

The room and bathroom seemed clean, but both looked a little worn, and the noise was the real problem. With plasterboard walls, sounds from the hallway and other rooms carried straight through. That’s why I can only give three stars. I stayed one night. The welcome was very warm, and they let me leave my luggage early in the morning. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the main station.

The room was decent and the location was good, but the service was terrible. I told the owner clearly that my friend and I would arrive late. She said that was fine and that she could let us in. When we arrived, nobody opened the door. We waited on the steps for an hour, then left because the building was open to anyone and no longer felt safe. We took a taxi back to the airport, slept there, and took another taxi back in the morning. She let us in then, showed us our room, and barely apologized. When I said we needed a refund, she agreed. The next day I had to bring it up again and asked for the full cost of the missed night and the taxis. She got angry and argued with me. She blamed me for not contacting her while I was on a flight, said going to the airport had been my choice, and offered either a one-night refund or nothing. She compared herself to other hosts who supposedly wouldn’t refund anything and said I should feel lucky. In the end, she refunded one night minus the city tax, so we lost money on the taxis. I found her conduct completely lacking in integrity and professionalism. I’d advise people to think twice before staying here.
