B&B Donna Anna by holidayngo

The owner was really kind, and the room was nice and fairly spacious. Napoli itself is noisy, crowded and chaotic, or maybe just lively. The main problem was the mould smell through the room, perhaps from the heavy rain the week before. Dark mould covered the shower corners too. And there wasn't any breakfast, so it's really just a B, not a B&B.

We paid for all four nights and didn't spend even one night there. We'd booked Donna Anna for four nights, but after finding the place around midnight, we saw dozens of cockroaches in the room and bathroom. We contacted the host, and he only suggested killing them with toilet paper, so we had to find another hotel late at night. After that he stopped replying to our messages. He could have offered some kind of fix or compensation, but instead canceled the Booking reservation and left it at that. Even finding the place had been difficult because the address online and on Booking was wrong, so GPS couldn't take us there and we had to ask people nearby.

Donna Anna and her husband were the highlight of Naples for us. They were warm, funny, chatty and helpful, just lovely people. Breakfast was plentiful and very good, with lots of coffee and morning conversation. They cooked it themselves, and Donna Anna's husband handled the washing up. The room had an old-fashioned charm and was clean and comfortable. Some sights are close, and the town center is about a 15-minute walk away, though at night the route goes through a park that looks unsafe, so it may not suit solo women or nervous travelers. This is a real apartment with rooms for rent, not a hotel, so don't expect a reception. The backstreet area may look sketchy if you're new to traveling in Italy, but it seemed like an ordinary city street to us. A cafe owner knew the place and pointed us to the door. Finding it can be tricky, and the building itself isn't great. Communication by text was difficult even with local SIM cards, so WhatsApp would help. Better signs would also make the place easier to find.

Anna and Constantino made us feel so welcome. The hospitality and breakfasts were amazing, and the place really matched what we imagine Italy and its people to be like. Thanks for everything. Hope we can come back and see you again. All the best. 🙂
