Casa del Monacone

The rooms were quite nice, clean, and newly renovated. They did come by and try to fix the problems, but nothing worked. Hot water came and went, so we had to skip a shower about half the time; the shower tub also leaked somewhat, and the WiFi was practically nonexistent. Parking nearby was very limited and cost 38 Euro for 24 hours.

What I remember most is the enthusiastic, very friendly staff. They made us feel completely welcome and shared tips about the neighborhood. The rooms were spotless, and breakfast included memorable warm Neapolitan pastries and pretty decent coffee. The setting is extraordinary, in a monastery complex with flamboyant baroque decor, early Christian catacombs, and pillars from a massive bridge built so royal coaches could avoid contact with the plebs. The place is run as a social charity, so staying here supports efforts to improve life in a neighborhood that’s still deprived but very interesting. Bravo to la Paranza!

The room was spotless, the shower was great, and the air conditioning was blinkin wonderful and very welcome! But what a gem of a find. The people here felt like one big family, such a special community. A visit to the catacombs that are part of the project is a must. If we’re ever in Naples again, we’ll stay here, no question.

The beds were comfortable, and the blackout curtains helped. Casa Monacone is close to everything, with walks of about 10-30 minutes, and it sits beside a beautiful church. Had a great stay in Naples and hope to come back.
