Hotel Iris

We booked on the day we arrived. The man who greeted us had a cigarette behind his ear and his shirt open to his chest, which did not give a serious impression. The owner was rude. We don't speak Italian, so we asked if he could translate a few words into English because we couldn't understand him. He started speaking harshly and shouting, though he understands and speaks English when it suits him. We were exhausted from traveling and didn't want to dwell on it. When he showed us the room, he seemed to realize how rude he'd been and started making jokes and comments, but we didn't find them funny. Noise was a major problem. There are no doors separating the hallway from reception, so phone calls, shouting, and loud TV noise carried right into the room at night. In the middle of the night, we woke to the man yelling at another guest and couldn't rest. We had booked just one night and didn't even shower. The shower had brown, dirty corners, and the toilet had no lid. Disgusting. This is just the first floor of a building “converted” into a “hotel.” The building is neglected, the entrance is always messy and dirty, and the elevator takes coins. The neighborhood is terrible, dirty, and problematic. Look at how the owner responds to bad reviews on Booking, with rudeness and insults. If there are so many complaints, maybe he and his management are the problem. There's such a thing as self-criticism. We regret not reading the reviews before we arrived. If you're considering a stay, think twice and don't make our mistake. Calling this a hotel is a disgrace. Horrible, never again.
