Lopez 20 - a Big Family Apartment

The apartment’s one real plus is its size. Beyond that, this was a bad experience, and I wouldn’t return even if it were free. The photos make it look newer, there’s no proper living room or sofa, and there isn’t a television. The bathrooms are dated too. It was unbearably hot inside, with NO AIR CONDITIONING. We sweated every night. The standing fans were pathetic, and some didn’t work. I reported that to Napoles Apartamentos, but I’m still waiting for replacements. Opening the windows meant mosquitoes and a constant roar of motorcycles. There are so many in Naples, especially this neighborhood, that walking around felt dangerous. The kitchen had no microwave, no dishcloths, and a moka pot with no handle, so you could burn yourself lifting it. Even making toast was a struggle. There were five recycling bins, though nobody in the city seems to use them, judging by the photos. The building entrance is grotesque, with a tiny doorway you have to duck through sideways. The neighborhood looks dirty and neglected. To reach the third floor, you pay 20 cents for the elevator. Someone met us and collected 60 euros in Naples city taxes for the group. I’d missed that charge in the small print, and it wasn’t included in the Booking.com price, which made the apartment more expensive than others. I don’t know what the city uses the money for, but it clearly isn’t sidewalk repairs or cleaning. Check-in started with two emails demanding our exact arrival time. The last warned the reservation would be canceled if we didn’t provide it. And with check-in no earlier than 3 am and checkout by 10 pm, it feels like you’re renting by the night, not the day.

The staff gave us a lovely welcome, and the place was clean and really spacious. It’s in a historic building right in the city center. I’d happily recommend it.
