Napoli Porta Di Mare

The location and clean room were the good parts. But there were plenty of problems. The rooms are much smaller than the photos suggest. My mother and I barely fit in our double room, and we're both size 8. It felt like we were renting a room in the owner's home, so there wasn't much privacy. He carried on with his life, and whenever we came or went, it felt like we were interrupting him. The living room, which doubles as a very poor breakfast room in the morning, is open, so everyone has to walk past it. The owner smoked in the flat constantly. From around 6 or 7 AM until midnight, the whole place stank of cigarettes. The listing also said every room had a balcony, soundproofing, and toiletries, but that wasn't true for my double room. I can't speak for the others. There was no soundproofing. We could hear the owner and his family using the toilet and flushing in their bathroom, every door shutting in nearby rooms made us jump, and the church bells became our natural alarm from 7 AM. The toiletries were a bit of a joke too: one roughly 1-litre bottle of shower gel, about half full. Breakfast might include one scrambled egg and two pieces of toast if you're lucky, cooked right beside you by the owner, which I guess is meant to be posh. You can get two cups of coffee, but have to ask. On the table there are supermarket multipack croissants and a few pieces of fruit. There might also be a yogurt and some jam left. The owner, Gianfranco, is quite funny. I tried to be a pleasant, easygoing, smiley, happy, clean, and quiet client, but didn't get the same back. He only speaks Italian. There's free Wi-Fi, too, but if the owner streams a film, you'll be stuck watching the loading circle on your phone or tablet.

The host is friendly and the rooms are clean, and the location is really good. The place is quite small, though, and breakfast is very average.

The apartment was really well equipped, and its location was fantastic. Gianfranco made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
