Palazzo Turchini

The room didn't come close to what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. Our complaint about the room was met with the claim that nothing else was available, even though the website showed rooms we could book. It was a terrible one-night stay. Construction was happening right beside the building, though luckily it stopped around 5 p.m. on Friday, when we arrived for a Friday-to-Saturday stay. The advertised air conditioning had been shut off for the whole building, despite the warm weather. Our room was divided in two by a simple partition, so talking and snoring carried through all night. Light came in under the door, and we had to block the big gap with a towel. The room hadn't been cleaned properly either, with hair on the bathroom floor and on the bed. The shower was barely big enough for a small woman like me to fit or move around.

The room was decent, and the staff were pleasant and accommodating. I had no complaints. This was at the end of my trip, after I'd stayed in both better and worse places, so I'd put it at 3.5 stars.

The breakfast had quite a limited selection, but the staff were polite and helpful, which we appreciated. For the price, the room was clean and comfortable enough to meet our basic needs for a short stay. It's a reasonable budget option.

The room was clean, and the hotel looked nicely updated. Breakfast was good, though it seemed many guests skipped it. We could easily walk to both the Spanish Quarter and the historic center. One warning from our own experience: be very careful with Naples taxi drivers. Every driver we used tried to rip us off. The hotel desk quoted 16 euros for a taxi they arranged to Napoli Centrale train station, but the driver said it would be 20 when we checked. I reminded him we'd been told 16. I only had a 20 euro bill, and he clearly didn't want to give change. He quickly handed me 3 euros and drove off. Drivers in Naples don't want to take credit cards, and if you pay that way, they'll definitely charge you more.
