I've stayed in some questionable places, but this was the worst hotel I've experienced. The location felt very sketchy, there was no toilet seat, and getting into the building meant ringing a bell with no clear indication of which one. Our sheets had hair all over them and looked dirty, as though they hadn't been washed. The price made no sense to me. Based on my travel experience, it should cost no more than 50 total per night. The most frightening part happened when my friend and I came back from dinner around 8:30 pm. We're tourists and people of color from America, so we already felt a bit scared. We rang the gate bell, but no one let us in at first. After a couple more rings, someone finally opened it. On our way up, an older white man stopped us, asked what was wrong, and wanted to see our room keys. He said he was the owner. We handed him the key and told him our room number, but he kept the keys and yelled that we shouldn't ring more than once. We explained that nobody had answered and we felt threatened by people outside. He held onto our keys and mocked us for not speaking Italian. He said the bell had woken him, even though it was only 8:30 pm and ringing it was the only way to enter. We apologized because we just wanted to get back to our room, and eventually he returned the keys. I was frustrated and asked my friend whether I should go talk to him about opening the gate, but my friend said there was no point and we should go back. As we headed to our room, the owner followed us in and demanded to know why I was making facial expressions. He said he'd been watching me on camera, then grinned. As a young woman, I felt threatened and scared. He stepped into our room, invading our privacy, and kept asking, “What is the problem, miss?” When I tried to explain, he interrupted and mocked me and my expressions. My friend tried to help, but the owner pointed a finger in my friend's face, started spitting, and said, “I don't have a problem, you do.” We feel we were hate-crimed, robbed of money, and had our privacy invaded. The owner watches people on cameras and mocks them. This was very scary. Do not stay here. I don't know how this place is still operating.
