Porto 53

We found this a great base for exploring different parts of Naples. Being across from the university also made the area fairly quiet by Naples standards. The room had a comfortable bed, effective air conditioning, and a roomy walk-in shower. There was a shared fridge and seating area too. Road noise was blocked really well, though we could hear showers and hairdryers in neighboring rooms. Simone was a great host and even arranged to have breakfast brought to our room one morning. It was simple, just a drink and pastry, but good value. I'd strongly recommend staying here.

The entrance was a bit of a shock. An old, narrow door leads into a shared garbage room and lobby with the musty smell you get in old buildings in Asia. Upstairs, Porto 53's lobby is bright and very clean, though the renovation looks budget-conscious. Our room seemed similarly cheaply redone, with poor lighting that made it feel dingy. The shower kept leaking, and I suspect there may be mold. I could smell a little bleach, which I assume the cleaner uses to deal with visible mold, at least they're trying. It's definitely on the cheap side. I gave it 3 stars because it presents itself as a 4-star hotel, and it falls a long way short.

This quiet apartment is great for a good night's sleep and works well for two couples or friends. It felt more like a hotel, with daily cleaning and fresh towels. Breakfast is included at a nice café a couple of minutes away. The location is excellent for Spaccanapoli Street, just two minutes up the road, and the Central Train Station is an easy walk of about 20 minutes.

We only stayed one night at Porto 53 before an early flight, and Simone made everything easy. He didn't mind us arriving early, held our bags while we explored, and even arranged a 4am cab to the airport. The room was lovely, with air conditioning, and surprisingly quiet despite the central location. Thanks for a great stay. Highly recommend!
