Locanda San Giorgio

Locanda San Giorgio is right in the middle of Piemonte wine country, and the team were attentive, thoughtful, and friendly. The food is amazing too. Thanks for everything! 🤩

The breakfast was really good, especially the cappuccino, and I loved the white wine. We got a lovely room for a fair price, and the whole place is clean and thoughtfully laid out, with different areas that even work for morning yoga 😊. Great food and service too. Good quality for the price, and no headache the next morning 👍🏻.

The place itself is stunning, but the service was practically absent. During Covid, a clean room is the least you can expect. We’d stayed at several other hotels in the region over the previous two weeks, and they’d all been deep cleaned, sanitised and checked regularly. That hadn’t happened at Locanda San Giorgio. Both rooms we were given were dirty. I won’t post the photos because they’re disgusting. The dirt looked old, surfaces hadn’t been wiped properly, and the sheets had holes. They said they had only one cleaner, but they’d had three months without tourists to deep clean the rooms. The cleaner also didn’t seem thorough. Things got worse when we tried to sort it out. The manager reacted badly to our feedback, was confrontational and sarcastic while reluctantly processing a refund. During that conversation, she called all the hotel’s previous guests stupid and accused me of calling her a thief. I want to be clear: I did not call her a thief. Life and holidays are too short for service like this. The rooms are dirty, and the managers were unprofessional when we tried to resolve the problem reasonably. I can’t stress enough that people should avoid this hotel.

The location and views are beautiful, but the customer service, especially from the owners, was very bad. Our group of seven stayed two nights in May, in a triple room for two adults and our six-year-old, and a suite for two adults and two children. After a full day of sightseeing, we came back to find hundreds of ants across the floor, furniture and beds, mostly coming from the bathroom. I reported it right away. A staff member brought a strong chemical spray and wanted to use it everywhere, even though she could see I was seven months pregnant. I stopped her because I was worried it could be dangerous. She then returned with a strange powder and spread it around without asking if that was okay. I asked the owner to move us, explaining that I couldn’t sleep in a room full of chemicals, and that we wouldn’t expose our six-year-old to them either. Sleeping among ants was unpleasant in any case. They said there were no other rooms available. The owner started cleaning with bleach, though I had already told her it wasn’t recommended for pregnant women because it could harm an unborn baby. I asked repeatedly to be moved and said we couldn’t sleep there. After 7 pm, the owner’s only suggestion was another locanda or hotel. Rather than find somewhere for us, a staff member handed us a phone number and told us to call. Nobody answered. The owner then disappeared and showed no concern about where we would spend the night. We tried several places, but they were all booked. In the end, our friends in the suite let my son and me sleep there, while our husbands stayed in the triple room, where ants were still present that night and the next morning. At checkout, we expected to speak with the owner and agree on compensation for the stress and inconvenience, but she didn’t show up. Staff wouldn’t call her or give us her number. I emailed after we got home and followed up several times, but never got a reply. This is no way to treat customers, and a room full of ants also suggests poor hygiene standards.
