B&B Ca'del Gallo

I had a rough experience here while traveling with my dog. I booked on August 8 for August 15 and made sure to tell them about him; they also asked how much he weighed, and I answered. But on August 12, after charging my card, they said he would have to sleep in the garden, somewhere unfamiliar to him, or I would be responsible for damage to the steep wooden staircase in my assigned room, or I could cancel. I chose to cancel, then struggled to find another room at short notice and had to pay more. My refund took another 10 days, and I lost my travel insurance too. This property isn't pet-friendly.

Paolo was helpful, and his dog Rubio was incredibly sweet. There’s parking for a car or motorcycle near the apartment, plus free Wi-Fi. From the apartment, the valley, hills, San Marino, and San Leo make a stunning view. The place itself is spacious, with a kitchen-living room with a stovetop, table, sofa, and single bed, but no TV. The double bed is in a little antechamber used as a bedroom, separated by a curtain, and there were a few cobwebs. The bathroom has a shower, sink, toilet, and bidet; shower gel and shampoo aren’t provided, and you need to ask the owner for a hairdryer. Breakfast is modest, just coffee, milk or tea, tart, and cookies. It’s more a private home with an extra apartment beside the owner’s place than a real B&B. Getting to B&B Ca’ Del Gallo is a real challenge. Google Maps and TomTom place it a full 5 km from where it actually is. The local roads wind uphill through thick greenery, are narrow enough for only one car despite being two-way, and are poorly lit and paved. This was in April 2018.

Paolo and his loyal dog Rubio made us feel very welcome, both friendly and attentive. The apartment has a lovely old-fashioned charm and sits among greenery, with a peaceful feel.

We’re really pleased with the choice we made. The place feels welcoming and is set somewhere quiet and restful. Paolo, the manager, was genuinely hospitable and helpful, and Rubio is an adorable dog.
