Li Calizzi

The setting was beautiful and the food looked lovely, but none of the dishes made us want another bite. Service was really slow, and at those prices I expected more. For context, I only had dinner here, I wasn't staying at the hotel or attending a wedding or anything like that.

We weren't warned that the pool area is public or that celebrations sometimes take place in the evenings. There's also a pool meant for guests, but while we were at Li Calizzi, the owners and their staff were taking over that area. On top of that, we didn't feel welcome when we arrived. When we asked for small things, like two wine glasses, we'd get sighs, as if every request was a burden. The atmosphere was so strange we even thought about leaving. We didn't expect to spend our holiday walking on eggshells. If you're after a calm, welcoming place, think twice before booking. That's our warning after staying at Li Calizzi with a friend this September.

We used this as a restful base for a few days while exploring South of Puglia. The rooms are lovely, and ours came with a large private terrace. There are only five rooms, plus a lovely pool and good food. The owners are very kind, and the staff were fantastic. It can be a little tricky to find, but some places are worth discovering.

If the chef isn't around, I'd skip dinner here. For us that was Monday, and the food wasn't good. You could eat out instead, or, if Ravi is still there and you're in the mood, try his Indian curry. The setting itself is really nice, with a lovely garden and pools. The rooms and house have plenty of space and everything you need, including air conditioning. The staff are friendly and always try to help. When the chef does cook, dinner is great. I especially recommend the ravioli filled with burrata on tomato sauce. You'll want a car here. There's literally nothing around li calizzi, so shopping and getting around means driving.
