Barbara made me feel at home straight away. She's warm, professional, and hardworking. I only stayed a couple of nights, which was a shame, because La Portella is such a lovely place. The rustic setting and the rooms themed around silver screen actors and actresses are a brilliant touch. I also loved the creative cooking from the Chef and Kitchen Crew. Every dish they served was delicious and felt like a special meal. I'd absolutely recommend stopping at La Portella. Grazie La Portella!

I found it expensive and disappointing, and the room wasn't very comfortable. The breakfast was industrial. Noise and smoke from the neighboring restaurant and bar made it impossible to sleep, with street sounds, people, and music carrying into the hotel. I couldn't open the windows to get some air, and there were no shutters. The photos show the room windows and the smoking area.

La Portella is right in the heart of wonderful Basilicata. During my seven-day holiday, the service was consistently excellent. My room was beautiful and comfortable, the staff were friendly and very helpful, and breakfast was well prepared. I also enjoyed an excellent typical dinner at the restaurant, with plenty of regional wines at very fair prices. Lots of cultural and natural sights are within an hour's drive, including Matera (European capital of culture 2019), the national parks Dolomiti Lucane, Alta Murgia, Cilento and Vallo di Diano, Laghi di Monticchio, and Castel del Monte. Bike rental, including E-Bikes, is available.
