Hotel Le Palme

We were close to a sandy beach, among the pine groves typical of the Tuscan coast, and the sea was lovely. The hotel is functional and sits beside a large campsite, where crickets chirp even through the night. We kept the windows closed to sleep, though the mattresses were rather uncomfortable. The sea is much the same all along this area, so there’s little reason to seek out another beach. Go for a swim around 7 or 8 in the morning to have the beach to yourself, or avoid August altogether.

The cakes Mrs. Samanta bakes fresh each day are delicious, and breakfast was excellent. The hotel itself was very quiet, even though the Africa campsite is nearby.

I’m recovering from a compound ankle fracture, so when I booked I asked for a room without steps or other obstacles. Instead, the bathroom had a shower curtain and a floor edging that didn’t keep the water in. It flooded the bathroom and room, creating a risk of slipping and falling. They refused my request to change rooms. Terrible treatment. Tiziana Oppizzi, room no. 33

Breakfast was excellent, and the quick lunch was good too. The Wi-Fi was much too slow, and the air conditioning wasn’t working. I didn’t tell reception about it. It was still a pleasant stay, and I’ll come back.
