Mariano IV Palace Hotel

Dinner at the restaurant was tasty and good value, and we found the staff kind, considerate, helpful, and very good at English. The hotel is in a great spot. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though the hotel feels a bit tired and due for an update. Breakfast could have been more inspiring. We sat in the garden and thought about how it might be improved with some weeding and replanting.

The hot water bath and mattress were good, and breakfast, general cleanliness, and service were okay, though I had to ask for things that should have been there from the start, and there was dust on the lamps. The old yellow equipment and ceilings get a 3, and the loud toilet cistern that refilled slowly gets a 2. It’s good enough, but really needs renovation, and I think it’s a bit overpriced.

I spent two days asking them to replace the cracked toilet seat in room 244, but it never happened. The hotel is pretty good when the weather isn’t hot. The central air conditioning doesn’t do a good job: rooms on the hot side with the setting sun never cool down. Mine was on the cool side with morning sun and was barely comfortable.

We found bugs in the bed, and nothing was done about it. The hotel feels outdated, and the A/C never worked. Breakfast was disappointing: the waiters didn’t bring enough food, and it seemed like they were being cheap with it. There were lots of German groups who cleared the food quickly. We won’t be coming back.
