The huge roof terrace, with its sun loungers, became extra living space and a place to look out over the sea, countryside, and people. The historic setting is charming, and everything has been restored and furnished with care and taste. We’ve just come back from almost three wonderful weeks in Orosei. The apartment was booked again, so giving up two days of our holiday to simply enjoy our free time at Franco's Hora Vona was absolutely the right choice for us. The downstairs bedroom’s beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathroom was right next door. The second bedroom is a walk-through room, which wasn’t entirely clear in the photos, but it has a light well above and an extra bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped, with a brand-new stove and oven. We especially liked the sinks in the downstairs bathroom and kitchen, which reflect the local area beautifully. From the terrace you can see one of the many sandstone quarries. Recycling is easy with buckets and bags. You can park in the archway at the right time. Since we were there in May, parking in either of the two larger lots was easy and free. A small car is definitely an advantage in the narrow streets of the historic center. Franco’s information brochure has some great tips, and the tourist information office is almost around the corner. There are lovely bars, cafes, restaurants, and charming little shops, including art shops, all within walking distance. Aperitifs at Zentral were a highlight for us. The taverna just behind the building was delicious and friendly, sometimes with traditional music. Groceries are easy to find at small and large grocery stores or farm shops, and there’s a small market twice a week. All the beaches were fantastic and incredibly long. Between the sea and the land there’s usually nature with a river, the Cedrino. Our local beach was Baroni/Su Petrosu beach, and we also spent a lot of time walking in the pine grove by the sea. There are small bars, playgrounds, and parking there, and it’s probably busier in peak season. Everything was free when we visited. In summer there’s probably an entrance fee, and if you don’t want to lie on the lovely warm sand, it’s quite expensive, as is typical in Italy. Renting bikes is a good way to get around. My personal highlight was a two-hour horseback riding trip at sunset with an aperitif. Il Barone near Stefano is highly recommended. Walk to Belo Horizonte if you can, the view of the whole nature reserve is fantastic. Unfortunately, the chapel is closed. The other churches in the area and the tower are worth seeing too. We liked Nuoro much more than the guidebook suggested. On the way there or back, it’s worth detouring to the "bandit village" of Orgosolo to see its beautiful murals. The caves nearby are amazing and make you realize how small a human life is. We also especially enjoyed the small museum in Bitti, not just the traditional singing, and so much more. We experienced so many wonderful things without stress or rushing. We’re sincerely grateful to Franco for his hospitality and delicious wine. We’ve already shared the web address with friends. Bye, bye.

Right in the heart of the city center, this beautifully kept historic apartment has spacious rooms and lovely furnishings. The terrace overlooking Orosei’s rooftops and the sea is stunning, and a treat to enjoy at any time of day. Franco is friendly and helpful. It’s a great choice for a holiday in a beautiful urban setting close to the sea, especially for families or a couple traveling alone. Just be aware that one of the two bedrooms is a passageway room, so it doesn’t offer complete privacy. The two bathrooms are a real advantage for families.
